More than tutoring – it’s YOUR private instructor in a classroom of one.
Math Tutor Tj sessions are extensive and designed teach or reteach concepts. Not merely repeat classroom lessons. Based on student needs, there may be homework, online check-ins, quizzes and/or projects.
Traditional tutors offer homework help or assist students with the work assigned by their teacher. This method works fine for those students who need a little help grasping a concept. However, if a student has major learning gaps (missing fundamental concepts), homework help alone is of little benefit.
Working with me is similar to taking another class and my students see results. However, I can not accept every student.
Unlike a classroom teacher who can create one lesson plan for an entire class, I create a customized plan for each students. As a result, I can only serve a small number of students at any given time. For students needing a little help here and there, I’m not necessary. For students just trying to get by with minimum effort, I’m too much.
Students who come to Math Tutor Tj have decided that they need/want a more intensive math enrichment program and are ready to see results.
If you’re not sure if this kind of program will meet your needs, please consider the follow resources first.
The Teacher
I always ask parents/students: Have you met with the instructor one on one? When problems are addressed early enough, a few minutes of one-on-one with the instructor can do wonders. Many teachers are willing to stay late or come in early to help a motivated student. Also, students must be prepared to ask questions in class. Hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars may be saved by simply raising ones hand.
Study groups
Many students benefit from studying with their peers. As I’ve mentioned, math is learned by DOING and working together is a great way to solidify concepts. If one student is having trouble in a class, it’s safe to assume that others are as well. By working together, students take control of their learning. Many people spend time on social media, did you know many of these services have chat features that could be used to work with other students?
Neighbors/ Older siblings
Before professional tutoring there were neighbors, friends and family members. Once again, for students who are having a little trouble grasping a concept or need help with homework, an older student/sibling can be a wonderful (and economical) resource. Tutoring younger students helps both students. You never learn a subject so well as when you try to explain it to another.
Other Tutors
If you’d prefer to schedule only as needed or don’t want a full program then you may find a better fit for your needs on Wyzant. If you follow this link you’ll be directed to their site. There’s a plethora of math tutors that help with homework and many are willing to travel to your home or meet you at your local library.
Additionally, there’s University Tutor. Prices on University Tutor are sometimes lower because the tutors don’t have to pay a percentage to the site.
*Note: I’m also listed on those sites so feel free to read those reviews as well.
