Why Math Tutor Tj?

Transforming Math Education One Student at a Time

In 2001, a few months before the No Child Left Behind Act went into effect, I  began to notice policy driven rhetoric replacing true math education.

Don’t misunderstand, I’m not against updating math standards.  In fact, I firmly believe that preparing students for tomorrow’s world requires a very strong math curriculum. One that not only focuses on the “how” but the “why”.

The standards themselves are not the issue. The problem is that many school districts simply don’t have the resources to execute these new standards effectively.  Teachers aren’t provided with the necessary training while administrators struggle to implement obscurely written mandates.

Educators feel pressured into teaching kids how to pass “Some Test” while comprehension and procedural fluency (how to do the problems) take a back seat.  Classroom teachers try to balance student needs with state requirements. Some stay longer and arrive earlier but for many students it’s still not enough.

As a result, many students still lack the math skills necessary for college graduation.

My Solution

I offer parents and students an alternative. A way to ensure that problem solving, logical  thinking and basic mathematical skills aren’t lost in the chaos of these newly implemented standards.

I teach mathematics the way THE STUDENT needs to learn it.  My students get results.

How

No two students learn mathematics the same.

Unlike a class whereas 25 students must share a math teacher, my students are in a class of one.

I can’t go too fast or too slow. My students can ask as many questions as they need and there’s no rush.

When I meet with a student for the first time,  I take the time to get to the root of the difficulty.  Every student can succeed when provided with the kind of instruction that meets their individual needs.

I’ve worked with students who hated math and those who were simply scared of it. I’ve also helped gifted students stay ahead of the curve and adult students get back in the groove of school.

It’s my passion.
