How do you measure success in math?ID-10057714 Good grades? Proficient test scores? These are popular measures but they aren’t the only ones we should consider. At Math Tutor Tj, success is also measured by a student’s math confidence. Math Confidence ? Math Confidence is the Confidence to Choose Your Path! It doesn’t matter if a student wants to pursue a career in engineering, history, computer programming or culinary arts.  The decision should be based on PASSION and INTEREST and not as a way to avoid challenging classes.

How many healing doctors, nurses and engineers has society lost because a potential student wasn’t confident enough to take an upper level math/science class? The mind that cures cancer, explores another galaxy or designs skyscrapers must begin the journey with math. ***

Math is an integral part of student’s lives. But did you know that the type of math classes taken in high school has proven to be a strong indicator of future income ten years after high school?  There are many theories for this correlation but when you consider that students who take challenging courses in high school have an advantage in college, it makes sense. Courses such as algebra, calculus and statistics are a requirement for many college degrees and students who are prepared for these courses have the best chance of completing college and graduating with a marketable degree. They take the time to check their work. They take sufficient notes, attend class, ask questions and complete their assignments. Students who embody these habits will be confident learners and will reap the current and future benefits of math understanding.
